For one reason or another you have come to this site. Maybe you are a descendent of Hans trying to research his life. Maybe you are looking for interesting pioneer stories. Maybe you have a friend who was so inspired by this story you had to read it yourself. And maybe you just stumbled on this site by chance.
Whatever your reason for visiting, my reason for creating this site is twofold. First, I hope to share the remarkable story of a man who few know, including his descendants. It is a story that goes side by side with the famous cowboys and pioneers of the American west. Though he is rarely mentioned in any published text, except occasionally in controversy, his story has the power to educate, inspire and uplift.
Second, I hope to clear up some of the common mistakes and assumptions that many make when doing genealogical research on this man. Though I am only an amateur genealogist, and by no means a professional writer, yet I have researched this man more than any others in my family tree and feel I can confidently justify my information with reliable sources.
Hans Jasperson is my great-great-great grandfather. He was not a perfect man, he did not hold high positions in his church or community, and he can claim no world renowned accomplishments, but I think that's why I like him so much. He was a regular man who did great things in his own sphere. If fate had allowed, his story might have been more widely known, yet I believe that all men and women, both small and great, who live their lives with integrity have stories that are no less inspiring. Hans was not Abraham Lincoln, he did not invent the telephone, and he did not win the Nobel Peace Prize, but his story is no less significant.
