Join a Guild Affiliated Group!
A number of groups of spinners and weavers around South Australia and in country Victoria are affiliated with the Handspinners and Weavers Guild of SA. Visitors are welcome at their meetings. Dates/times of meetings listed are below. Please note: meetings may be cancelled due to covid-19 restrictions. Many of these groups organise activities or events for all to enjoy.
Affiliate groups meet
In the greater Adelaide area:
Seaford: the Seaford and District Handspinners & Weavers Group, who meet on Mondays (excluding public holidays) from 11-3 at the Christies Beach Sailing Club, Esplanade, Christies Beach, Visitors are welcome, If you are new to spinning, the group have spare wheels and will help you to get started, They will also help you get started with weaving.
Aldinga: The Aldinga & Sellicks Spinners, Knitters, Weavers and Felters, who meet first and third Tuesdays (9:30am-2:30pm) during the school terms at the Aldinga Institute, Old Coach Road, Aldinga. Visitors Welcome! Tea, coffee and biscuits provided. They hold an Open Day in early August, titled Fleece To Fashion.
Elizabeth: the Elizabeth Spinners and Weavers Inc. who meet on Wednesdays from 12:30-3pm at the Elizabeth Park Guide Hall, on Kirk Street, Elizabeth park next door to Church For You. If it is over 37 degrees they don't meet.
In the Adelaide Hills:
Gumeracha: the Gumeracha Handspinners & Weavers Guild, who meet each Tuesday (unless the forecast is for 38 degrees or over) 10-3 at Salem Baptist Church, 30 Victoria Street, Gumeracha.
Littlehampton: the Adelaide Hills Hand Spinners & Weavers Guild, who meet on the 1st (for a social get-together and some general meetings) and 3rd (for workshops and/or guest speaker) Thursdays of the month, 9:30-2:00, at Peace Memorial Hall, Main Street, Littlehampton. An evening spinning group and a weavers group also meet during the month. This group hold an Open Day at the end of May and annual equipment and fibre sales day in November. Mt Pleasant: the Mt Pleasant Spinners & Craft Group, who meet Wednesdays from 10-3 at St Johns Church Hall, Melrose Street, Mount Pleasant.
In regional South Australia:
Kingscote (Kangaroo Island): the KI Handspinners & Weavers - The group meet & have a shop at 5 Telegraph Road, Kingscote - opposite KI Fuel. Open 10-3, Tues, Wed, Fri & Sat. Please call in when you are next visiting the island. They also have a Facebook page.
Millicent: the Millicent Craft Group
Mount Gambier: the Mt Gambier Spinners & Fibre Craft Group
Naracoorte: the Naracoorte Spinners and Weavers Group
Saddleworth: Workshop at Saddleworth, who meet every Thursday 10-2 at the Saddleworth Caravan Park and for spinning on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday 10-2 (also at the Saddleworth Caravan Park).
Victor Harbor: the South Coast Spinners & Weavers Group, who meet on Mondays (except for public holidays) from 10-4 at the Adare Uniting Church Hall, 6 The Drive, McCracken.
Whyalla: the Whyalla Handspinners & Weavers Guild, who meet at Tanderra Craft Village, Block J, Pt Augusta Rd, Whyalla on Wednesdays and Saturdays 10-2 and Tuesday evenings 6-9pm. They can also be found at the Craft Market (Saturday and Sunday 10-4). Visitors welcome - Drop in when you are next in Whyalla!
Interstate:
The Sunraysia Spinners and Weavers are located in Mildura, Victoria. They meet at MADEC, on Madden Ave, on the 1st and 3rd Mondays and the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month, from 9:30-2:30. Visitors are very welcome. Drop in when you are next visiting Mildura!
Basketry SA is an affiliated group which meets at the Guild Hall twice a month (2nd Wednesdays and 4th Sundays) from 10:30 am and may hold workshops at other times. Regional groups meet at Murray Bridge, Burra, in the Adelaide Hills, the Southern Vales,, on Yorke Peninsula and the South Coast of SA.
