Muhammad Hamza Waseem is a physicist whose current research spans quantum foundations and quantum computing, with an emphasis on compositional, process-based perspectives. He is the Faculty Lead for Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University London, and a Senior Research Fellow at the Global Centre for Advanced Studies, Dublin. He also teaches mathematics and physics at the University of Oxford and freelances as a quantum science education consultant.
He pursued his DPhil in Physics at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and previously worked as a Research Scientist in the quantum computing industry. During his undergraduate studies in electrical engineering in Pakistan, he helped establish the country’s first single-photon quantum physics laboratory and later co-authored the book Quantum Mechanics in the Single-Photon Laboratory (Institute of Physics), now in its second edition.
Alongside his research, Hamza leads a programme in quantum science education and public engagement, developing and experimentally validating novel approaches to teaching quantum physics, including the Quantum in Pictures initiative. His outreach work has been recognised with the Public Engagement with Research Impact Award (MPLS, Oxford), the Diana Award, and a Public Engagement Award (South East Physics Network).
