My Second Paddle Key

This Key was made in the weeks of December 2018, being compleated new years eve. Therefore I will call it the D2018

the base for this key was an offcut of some kitchen worktop which I am not sure if it is granite or manmade from crushed, compacted glass in resin. Whatever it is, it proved to be extremely hard, breaking three tips of glass cutting drills.

After cutting the base to size using an angle grinder with a stone cutting disk, I use one of the offcuts like a fill on the edges to grind them smooth. This can be seen in slide 7 below.

I originally planned in electroplating all the steel parts making up the keys with copper, however, this proved unsuccessful therefore I mixed up some Hammerite paint and spray painted them.

I hope to further explore the possibilities of electroplating to get the success I have seen others achieved in YouTube videos.

The silvered contacts were removed from some large micro switches I have a surplus of and soldered on to the end of the cutoff bolts used for contact adjustment. see slide 16 below

Hopefully, the rest of the slide showing the construction of this key should be self-explanatory, but please contact me via the guestbook if more information is required.
