How I make my badges and decals

Some one asked me how I made the badge, so here is my method:-

The first stage is to make your design artwork in whatever software you have available.

I am using Photoshop CS3 here, but I have also used the open source software called GIMP and others.

The design is done with white text on a black background. The reason for this will be clear as we proceed.

When you have completed your artwork it needs to be horizontally flipped.

The graphic is then printed out on a sheet of OHT transparency using a monochrome laser printer.

Here we are looking at the design from the non printed side just to check all looks good.

The design is then cut out of the sheet, to a more manageable size. This is then turned to toner side up. Using a good quality double sided tape, stick strips down over the entire design.

The artwork is then turned around ready to cut out.

Taking great care, the design is cut out around the second boarder I included as a cutting guide.

The badge or decal is complete and ready to be used.

All that is required now is to remove the double sided tape backing, carefully lifting up an edge with your nail or tweezers.

Because the double sided tape is almost transparent, whatever colour the surface is you are sticking the badge/decal on will show through. Obviously  the text or graphic that was white in the artwork will result in no toner in those areas. Therefore the final look is silver text on black as in this example, or gold text when placed on brass. The OHT transparence give a nice glossy finish to the surface of the badge/decal.
