We will now spend the rest of the year preparing for the AP Exam. If you are not taking the exam, there are many opportunities to improve your grade if that interests you.
I know that you have the option to choose not to participate in any of it and still receive your diploma. However, this is one of those rare moments that you get to define yourself as a person. What will it take you be proud of yourself at the end of each day? Is that the kind of person you want to be known as? The answers to those questions will be different for each of you, as will your definition of success. Maybe success will mean earning a 5 on the AP. Maybe it will mean that you kept working hard to help others even when the world around you was falling apart. Maybe it will mean keeping the people in your house fed and clean and sane. One of those things is not more valid than the other, and it is up to you what you do with this remaining time. This year is not ending how any of us thought it would, and that is not something that we can control, which is super frustrating. The one thing you can control is how you respond to this situation, and what you do with your time. When you tell this story in 20, 50, or 70 years, will you look back on it and be ashamed of your response, or proud of what you accomplished in the face of such adversity. I will be here for you, through email and remind and zoom. Let me know what I can do to support you through this.
Here is the outline of what we will do for the next few weeks. Zoom meeting links for the FRQ and review sessions will be posted by Monday morning.

Here is what the college board has released https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/about-ap/news-changes/coronavirus-update?SFMC_cid=EM288604-&rid=47531872 . Basically, there will be an online test that is shorter in content covered, and is free response only. Evolution and Ecology will not be on the exam for AP Bio. We will still finish the ecology unit because it's one that students enjoy, and because many of you might be considering a field in science, and if this is your biology credit, you should have the full class. It will leave us plenty of time to review. According to College Board, the colleges are on board with awarding credit for this modified test. Colleges and Universities are also having to majorly adjust the end of their school year, so they are willing to to be flexible to help students.
At this point, there is not much chance to get on campus. If this closure lasts through the end of the year, they will organize some way for you to retrieve your belongings from your locker. If any body has amazing notes that they would like to upload images of for their classmates to use, email me and we can make it happen. Or I can just post all PP for the whole year. Or both.
You will be expected to start online classes on Monday, March 30th. For the next week, teachers are expected to use the time to develop their online content. I will not be assigning anything until the week of the 30th, however, I will post some optional content next week. Things that might be good to start reviewing, or are just interesting science stuff. If you are ready to get back to thinking about biology, you can read/watch/chat about things. If you have your hands full with a job or taking care of family, that's cool too for next week. For now, I am looking at the gradescope platform for test taking. I will let you know in the next two days when I decide if that will be feasible.
I have no idea. I'm sorry, this must be insanely frustrating for you, and I wish I had a better answer. If you're feeling down about the situation, that's normal, and I understand. It took days for me to get over the sting of the winter guard season getting cut short, and I still get pretty down thinking about the fact that I might not ever see that group of students perform together again. There are going to be a lot of things about the next weeks and months that are going to be hard, and the best we can do is show each other a little kindness and understanding along the way.
As far as I know, this class will still be for a grade. There will be assessments and assignments as close as possible to what we would do in class. I will try to stay aware of the time expectations, as many of you expressed concern about time commitment. Don't expect to follow a bell schedule each day, things will be somewhat more freeform than that, but there will definitely be things you have to complete and turn in.
Again, I have no idea. I really hope so. You are all amazing humans in so many ways, and it's disappointing for everybody that we are losing out on the wonderful things that you are capable of. It's necessary for public health, but disappointing nonetheless.
