Hi! My name is Hamideh Mohtashami Borzadaran and I am a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economics of Obesity. I obtained my PhD in Behavioural and Experimental Economics in 2022 at the University of Birmingham.

My research can be categorized into two branches. My first line of research focuses on social preferences, paternalism and decisions made for others. In my PhD thesis, I carried out experimental analysis looking at social distance in a principal-agent setting and its impact on principals' delegation decisions.

My second line of research focuses on experimental methods and their application to tailoring policies and interventions that can impact consumer problems and in particular, food consumption. In this line of research, I collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including policymakers, local authorities, consortiums such as Salient, and even leading supermarket chains. In a recent partnership with a major UK supermarket chain, we gained access to a dataset of 15 million basket transactions. Using this data, we studied the dynamics of healthy purchasing behaviours among consumers and evaluated the implications of increasing the value of the Healthy Start Voucher. You can read more about my work here.
