Family Dogs
The Haloupek and Posekany families have owned a lot of dogs. They were always part of the family, and they managed to get in a lot of family pictures. I will show the oldest pictures first.
I think this bird dog belonged to the Hansens. Probably on the farm in Benton County, Iowa.
I have no idea when the picture was taken, but it was found among some photos from around 1900.
I have Staneks on my mother's side and Yarosheks on my father's side. One intermarriage between the two branches, besides my parents, was Albert Stanek and Caroline "Carrie" Yaroshek. Albert and Carrie lived in Austin, MN, and had 10 kids, of whom 8 went to war in WWII. They also had a dog, named King, who also served almost 2 years in the K-9 Section, US Army. The picture above shows King before the war. Is that a shotgun that Lenny is holding?
Sometimes known as "King Wags," he served as a Sentry.
My wife says he looks like a labrador mix. Maybe a labradoodle?
King returned home, but he was not the same dog. He had become very aggressive.
He died not long after returning home, due to trauma from his wartime experience.
I think he sacrificed enough for his country.
Grandma Katie (Sevcik) Haloupek with the family dog, on 9 Feb 1946, on the front porch of
the Haloupek house in Belle Plaine, Iowa. It must have been warm for February in Iowa!
My wife says it's either a long-haired dachshund or a spaniel.
Grandma with the dog and some flowers, 1944. The shop and out buildings are visible in the background. The flowers may be for the death of her son, Walter Orville Haloupek, who died in a submarine near the Philippines.
Grandma Katie with the dog in the back yard at Belle Plaine, Iowa.
Dorothy Haloupek with the black dog.
A beagle in the front yard at the Haloupek house. I only have one picture of this dog, but it was
in my dad's photo album, so it must have been a special dog.
Grandpa Milo Posekany on the farm, with a kid, dog and lawnmower.
On the Posekany farm, back porch, mid 1940s. Clockwise: Nora (Krueger) Posekany, Lois (Posekany) Haloupek,
Milo Posekany, Clifford Malm, and an unknown dog. This isn't the same as the dog at the top of the page, is it?
This pup is in several pictures, from Lois (Posekany) Haloupek's photo booklet.
Don Posekany with the puppy. If he is 10 this would be about 1943.
Jack Haloupek with the puppy. Wearing a Cornell sweater.
The puppy.
Smoking with the puppy. Jack Haloupek on the left, Milo Posekany with the hat.
On the Posekany farm, near Chelsea, Iowa.
Gussy, the family dog at the Haloupek home in Illinois, about 1967. Or was it Tuffy?
I forget which one it was that bit the chain saw.
Jack Haloupek with the dog, at our home near Chicago.
Vada, beloved dog of Laura Castell and family. I think she is a Yellow Lab. About 2013.
Aegis, Cutter and Grandma. Aegis, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, was our first dog in New Jersey.
Jan (Bill's wife) with Aegis and Cutter, at the Haloupek place in New Jersey, about 2001.
Cutter is a pimp. About 2002.
Cutter, a tricolor corgi, was named after the coast guard ships called cutters. About 2002.
Darcie "Doh-Doh" had the finest, softest fur, like a rabbit.
Our beagle, Winston, a.k.a. Mr. Wiggles, a.k.a. Derpy
Derp.
Reba, a.k.a. Rebamax. a.k.a. The Dutchess of Lichtenstein.
Quickest tongue in New Jersey. License to Lick.
