HISTORY OF CHALLENGE COINS

A challenge coin is a small coin or medallion (usually military) bearing the organizations insignia or emblem and carried by the organization's members. Traditionally, they are given to prove membership when challenged and to enhance morale. In addition, they are also collected. In practice, challenge coins are usually presented by high ranking officials in recognition of special achievement. They are also exchanged and sold in recognition of visits to another's organization.
