Gustavo conducts research on macroeconomics and labor economics. He is currently a Senior Research Economist at CEMLA, the regional association of central banks in Latin America and the Caribbean. He recently worked in the Research Department of Banco de México. Gustavo received a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Minnesota in 2016. He is from Lima, Peru, where he received a B.A. in Economics from the National Agrarian University - La Molina in 2003. In Peru, he worked in the Economic Studies Division at both the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Superintendency of Banks, Insurance, and Private Funds Companies. He earned his M.A. in Economics from the University of Chile in 2008. He then worked for 2 years in the Research Department of the Central Bank of Chile. In Chile, Gustavo also taught undergraduate courses at Diego Portales University and the University of Chile. Gustavo also holds an M.A. in Economics from the University of Minnesota.
