A Girl Scouts service unit is a local support network that connects multiple Girl Scout troops within a defined geographic area. In our case, that area is the Fayetteville-Manlius School District.
Service units are led by experienced volunteers who coordinate shared events, provide guidance and mentoring for troop leaders, share information and expectations from the council, and help connect troops with training, programs, and community resources.
A council is the regional organization that oversees Girl Scouts across a larger area, providing staff support, training, properties, and operational oversight. Our service unit is part of Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways, which operates under Girl Scouts of the USA.
Simply put, troops work directly with girls, and the service unit supports the adults and systems that help those troops succeed.
