I have included some information on a few of the topics that some of our pet owners have asked about. Hopefully they will be helpful. If there is something that you think that others would be interested in please drop me a line and let me know.
Each of our cats and kittens are sent to their new homes with a Purina Pro Plan package that includes food samples, coupons, FortiFlora probiotics and transition information. We currently use Purina ProPlan products and are very satisfied with the nutritional results in our adults and kittens and recommend continuing this product line.
7" MED/FINE STEEL COMB: We prefer these combs instead of brushes because they glide through the Birman coat right to the skin without snagging.
We only use open top litter boxes and our preference is the Litter Locker Tote style for ease of cleaning.
Lately we have moved several of our cats over to the Purina Tidy Cat Alert crystal litter. Sera is prone to urinary tract infections and this has alerted us several times before she became symptomatic so we could seek medical intervention early. We thought it would be a great idea to monitor the others too!
We previously used Wood Pellet Litter and still recommend it. This can be purchased in several forms: Wood Stove Pellets, Horse Bedding or Feline Pine Cat Litter. They are all equal, but the price will vary significantly.
All of our kittens will transition onto the finer, softer clumping litter if that is your preference. Occasionally we have a kitten or two who have a strong preference for the finer clumping litter and will advise you of this.
If you opt to use automated robot litter boxes, please be very aware that the inexpensive ones from over seas/Amazon have been implicated in a number of kitten or cat injury and deaths due to malfunction/size of kitten/unexpected behaviour of curious kitten in the box (exiting and re-entering etc.). We do NOT recommend automated litter robots for this reason and the importance of daily monitoring of health.
