Course Policies and Grading

Academic Dishonesty

All students are expected to comply with the Georgia Tech Honor Code. Any evidence of cheating or other violations of the Georgia Tech Honor Code will be submitted directly to the Dean of Students. The institute honor code is available at http://www.honor.gatech.edu/.

Grading

Your grade will be determined as follows:

(20%) Homework.

(50%) Midterm Exams. There will be three Midterms, each is worth 1/6th of your grade. The dates are found in the course calendar (subject to change). I will substitute your grade on the final exam for your lowest midterm score, if it helps improve your grade.

(30%) Final Exam. The Final Exam is on Friday, May 4th, 2:50-5:40PM.

The exam grades may be curved. I will only curve to adjust your grade upwards, never downwards. All issues about the grading of exams and quizzes much be brought up to the instructor within 48 hours of receiving the graded test.

Midterm Progress Report

You will receive a midterm grade of S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory). This just gives you some idea of where you stand in the course. The midterm grade is just for your benefit; it has no impact on your final grade.

Homework

Learning mathematics is a hands-on activity. In my experience, students who do not put effort into the homework assignments almost always fail the course. See the course homepage for assignments. Homework will be assigned weekly on the course homepage.

I encourage you to discuss your homework with your classmates as well as the instructor or tutors. However, the written work you turn in must be your own. Your work must be neatly presented and clearly explained. Please note that simply giving the correct answer with no explanation will result in zero credit for the problem.

Exams

All exams are closed book. You are not allowed to use calculators and all electronic devices must be turned off during the exam. It is your responsibility to make sure that you are able to take the exams at the regularly scheduled time. If you miss 1 midterm, your grade on the final will be substituted for that score.
