Hempy table

In this chapter, we are going to build a table for two Hempy Buckets with waste reservoirs. The table will utilize four Weight platforms to measure the weight of the buckets and waste reservoirs. The table frame is designed to fit two weight platforms at the bottom between its legs, and two platforms on the top with a spacer tray between them. The measured weight is used to control the Irrigation by the Hempy module,

Frame

The frame is made out of construction pine timber that I cut to size using a hand saw, sanded and covered with several layers of lacquer. The actual size of the timber may vary +-10% from the specification when using cheap construction grade wood. Measure and adjust the SketchUp plans if needed.

Legs: 478x48x48 mm / ~19x2x2 inch
Short side: 304x48x74 mm / ~12x2x3 inch. With 3 pocket holes drilled on each side of the inner face.
Long side: 804x48x74 mm / ~32x2x3 inch. With 3 pocket holes drilled on each side of the inner face.

Pocket holes

The legs are joined using 3pcs of M4 / #4 coarse wood screws with pan washer head (Kreg screw or Pocket screw).
PS: As I'm using 51mm/2" long screws instead of the recommended 64mm/ 2.5" to account for the construction lumber -+10% tolerances.

Notice the hole location difference between the long and the short side of the table frame: The long side has the holes positioned close to the top, and the short size is positioned to the bottom. This is needed to avoid the screws from each side colliding within the table leg.

Set the distance adjuster to 40mm then adjust the drill bit collar so that the tip of the drill bit almost reaches the base of the jig. Use a clamp to secure the jig on the side frame before drilling the holes.

Building four weight platforms

Following the steps of the Weight platform chapter build four weight platforms for the table. The frame is designed to fit two platforms on top for the Hempy Buckets and two platforms between its legs for the Waste Reservoirs.

Building the Spacer tray

The top weight platforms are kept in place with the help of a removable spacer tray and two stop blocks screwed onto the side of the frame at each end. The weight platforms sit between these spacers with a small 1-2 mm gap to allow them to measure weight unrestricted.

Cut the wood pieces for the spacer tray based on the SketchUp dimensions and assemble them using 32mm / 1 1/4" pocket screws. Set the pocket hole jig to 19mm - 3/4" depth.
