The OSS Solid Waste District in partnership with local township officials provide the Aim to Be Green Recycling Drop-off Program to the residents of Ottawa, Sandusky and Seneca Counties. The recycling service, which began in October of 2012, continues to show growth and participation from District residents. To maintain a successful program please take a moment to review recyclable materials that are accepted, materials that do not belong in the bin and ways to reduce contamination through proper handling. The following information will help to make your next recycling experience quick, easy and contamination free.
Materials accepted for recycling include the following household items: aerosol cans (tip removed), aluminum, cardboard , glass bottles/jars, cartons (i.e. – milk, soup, juice cartons), magazines, newspaper, office paper / junk mail and loose shredded paper, paperboard (i.e. – cereal boxes), plastic food, beverage and detergent containers only (i.e. – water bottles, shampoo bottles, yogurt containers, etc.) and steel cans. These materials can be placed into the bins all together. It’s important to break down all cardboard / paperboard boxes to conserve space in the recycle bins.
Materials that DO NOT BELONG in the bin include: plastic bags, Polystyrene (e.g. - Styrofoam), contaminated materials or items soiled with debris or food residue (e.g. - cardboard pizza box with cheese). Bottles should be rinsed and empty or without liquid. Plastic items including automotive or chemical containers, laundry baskets, buckets, garden hoses, plant trays, PVC materials, toys, Tupperware and vinyl siding. In addition, packaging materials (i.e. - bubble wrap, EPS block, air bags, etc.) are not recyclable and will not be accepted in the recycle bins. This listing is not all inclusive, however, materials listed are the more common materials we see in the recycle bins that DO NOT BELONG.
The District and participating township officials would like to thank the residents for their continued support of the recycling service. For questions or comments about the Aim to be Green Recycling Drop-off Program contact the District's office at
