Grandmaster Taneo teaches knife defense system called the Excalibur Combat Judo. This knife defense system was founded by Pacifico Taneo's teacher, the late Grandmaster Gerardo Alcuizar (10th dan Doce Pares).
Excalibur Combat Judo techniques are documented in a written syllabus, a systematic curriculum that can be broken down in course outline and lesson plans adaptable to a crash course, a seminar, or a long-term training towards a belt grade certification.
Combat Judo -term refers to empty hand techniques of Filipino martial arts. Other names for Filipino empty hand techniques are for example Pangamot, Mano Mano and Eskrido (name used both Gerardo "Larry" Alcuezar and Ciriaco "Cacoy" Cañete). Originally Combat Judo was a term that was used for hand to hand combat by many Allied Forces during WWII. After WWII Combat Judo -term was passed to Filipino martial arts with American soldiers doing their service in the Philippines. Combat Judo -term refers to empty hand grappling. It is a blend of Filipino combat traditions with influences both from Western boxing and Japanese Jujitsu systems - although not necessarily from Judo. Influences vary from style to style and from teacher to teacher. Some Combat Judo systems can be considered more complete than others; some being more a set or a collection of different techniques and some being more a system.
Most of the Combat Judo techniques have common characteristics that stress more of defense, disarming and rapid disposal of attackers and less on control and submission of the assailant. Unlike many sport based martial arts, in Combat Judo there are no rules that are designed to protect the participants in a contest situation.
Combat Judo taught by Grandmaster Pacifico Taneo is a quite comprehensive knife defense system. It was founded by Grandmaster Taneo's teacher, late Grandmaster Gerardo Alcuizar who studied armed and unarmed systems with Cebu's prominent eskrimadors and refined and systematized the various techniques to a documented curriculum.
Grandmaster Pacifico Taneo, Alcuizar's top student, teaches the diverse legacy passed on to him on the Island of Lapu Lapu, Cebu. Lessons of Grandmaster Taneo include knife defense, stick and sword techniques.
