Bio

Sergio Grammatico is an Associate Professor at the Delft Center for Systems and Control, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands.

Born in Italy, in 1987, he received the Bachelor's degree (summa cum laude) in Computer Engineering, the Master's degree (summa cum laude) in Automatic Control Engineering, and the Ph.D. degree in Automatic Control, all from the University of Pisa, Italy, in February 2008, October 2009, and March 2013 respectively. He also received a Master's degree (summa cum laude) in Engineering Science from the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa, Italy, the Italian Superior Graduate School (Grande École) for Applied Sciences, in November 2011.

In February-April 2010 and in November-December 2011, he visited the Department of Mathematics, University of Hawaii at Manoa, USA; in January-July 2012, he visited the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California at Santa Barbara, USA. In 2013-2015, he was a post-doctoral Research Fellow in the Automatic Control Laboratory, ETH Zurich, Switzerland. In 2015-2018, he was an Assistant Professor, first in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, TU Eindhoven, The Netherlands, then at the Delft Center for Systems and Control, TU Delft, The Netherlands.

He was awarded a 2005 F. Severi B.Sc. Scholarship by the Italian High-Mathematics National Institute, and a 2008 M.Sc. Fellowship by the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies. He was awarded 2013 and 2014 “TAC Outstanding Reviewer” by the Editorial Board of the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, IEEE Control Systems Society, 2017 NWO TOP laureate in Mathematics by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research. In 2018, he was awarded an ERC Starting Grant by the European Research Council (ERC). He was the Team Leader of the ETH IfA Autonomous Sailing Team, winner of the World Robotic Sailing Championship 2015. He was finalist for the Best Student Paper Award at the 2010 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference, recipient of the Best Paper Award at the 2016 ISDG International Conference on Network Games, Control and Optimization, of the 2021 Roberto Tempo Best Paper Award at the 2020 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, and co-author for the 2022 IEEE CSS Italy Young Author Best Journal Paper Award.

He has been an Associate Editor for the IFAC journal Nonlinear Analysis Hybrid Systems (2017-2020), for the IEEE CSS Conference Editorial Board (2018-2021), for the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control (2018-) and for Automatica (2020-).
