Football officiating is a very rewarding avocation. When you step onto the football field, whether it is for a youth league game or a Friday night varsity, you can feel the excitement. Officiating football is both physically and mentally challenging. The game of football and the rules are very complex. Every official learns each time he or she officiates a game.

The GPFOA is always looking for new officials who love the game and take personal pride in self-improvement. You will have an opportunity to share your enthusiasm for sports with eager student-athletes and help mold the future of our youth. It's a great way to stay active and provide a lifetime educational experience for kids.

Extensive training is provided to new officials through, training sessions, on-field instructional clinics, and pre-season scrimmages. The basis of the training for the new official is to provide basic knowledge of the rules and mechanics of officiating.

Officiating football is a time-consuming endeavor. New officials must commit not only to the chapter meetings but must also be able to work games on Saturdays and Sundays. We also expect officials to devote personal time to learning rules and mechanics.
