KNUTSFORD BADMINTON CLUB

CONSTITUTION AND RULES

1.0 TITLE

The club shall be known as KNUTSFORD BADMINTON CLUB.

2.0 CONSTITUTION

2.1 Constitution

The club shall comprise its members and officers the number of which shall be determined by the committee in relation to the available court places and the mix of men and women in the club at any particular time.

2.2 Playing Members

Addition of a players name and address to the role shall be deemed sufficient to qualify that player as a member of the club. Membership implies commitment to the rules of the club and liability for payment of fees as defined in 3.0 below. Membership entitles any player to stand for one of the officers posts as below. Membership also entitles members to be selected for league teams, subject to a minimum attendance of 25% on club nights, or at the discretion of the committee.

2.3 Social Membership

Upon retirement from the club as a playing member, a member may, at the discretion of the committee, be invited to become a social member. Such membership shall be in a non-voting capacity, and will entitle a member to be informed of, and participate in Club social functions at the applicable cost. Social members who may occasionally wish to play shall be treated as guests as below.

2.4 New Playing Members

New members may be inducted into the club to fill vacant places as deemed appropriate by the committee as in 2.1 above.

Where there are more potential new members than available places, a list of prospective members will be kept; from which prospective members will be invited to play on a sequential order of application basis before being formally invited to join the club. The Club Committee (see under 2.5 below) will decide by general agreement on the suitability of prospective members and will advise the applicant accordingly.

2.5 Guests

Guests shall be invited to play to fill temporary vacancies created by the absence of members subject to their agreeing to pay court fees as defined in 3.2.

2.6 Club Officers

The club shall have a working committee comprising a Chairperson, a Treasurer, a Secretary, a Press and Publicity Officer, a representative from the Team Selection Committee, a Social Organiser, and one other member drawn from the body of the membership. The committee may invite other club members to attend committee meetings as appropriate. The Social Organiser shall chair a committee of volunteer members who would be prepared to assist in the organisation of club social events.

2.7 Annual General Meeting

There will be an AGM of the club in April of each year at which the previous year's officers will report on the year’s activities and financial status. Amendments to the club constitution and rules shall be proposed and voted upon. Election of club officers shall be carried out by ballot.

3.0 FEES

3.1 Membership Fees

Fees shall be payable half yearly in advance at a rate set by the Treasurer after consultation with the committee. Fees must be paid by 1st March and 1st September. There is a penalty of £5 for late payment.

The Club Bank Account shall be maintained at a bank or building society at the discretion of the committee. Signatories for cheques shall be two out of three nominated officers, being Chairperson, Treasurer or Secretary.

Membership Fees shall be used for the following purposes:

1. To meet the costs of normal Sunday night court bookings.

2. To affiliate playing members to the Badminton Association of England, Cheshire County Badminton Association and the Crewe & District Badminton League.

3. To meet the costs of Friendly home matches.

4. To purchase shuttlecocks for club use.

5. To defray club officers administrative expenses (post, telephone) and other club costs (e.g. flowers, get well cards).

6. To assist from any surpluses with meeting the costs of club Social events.

3.2 Guest Fees

Guests shall pay the Treasurer £5.00 per night court fees. The first visit is free of charge. All other expenses to be borne by the guest.

3.3 Social Event Charges

Members of the club who elect to take part in club social functions are responsible for charges incurred on their behalf in respect thereof, unless adequate notice of cancellation is given to the Social Organiser in advance. The Social Organiser shall be the arbiter in cases of illness et cetera.
