This course gives both a theoretical and a practical introduction to the field of Natural Language Processing. You will get a theoretical background to the main NLP problems and some of their standard solutions. In parallel you will train your Python skills and learn to use the NLTK library for NLP.
Note that the course is full-time and you have no other responsibilities during November–December, so I assume that you all will be totally devoted to this course. (I.e., no pubs or parties until after Christmas:)
The teachers are Peter Ljunglöf (responsible), Grégoire Détrez (supervision), Torbjörn Lager (some lectures) and Staffan Larsson (some more lectures).
The 15hp of the course are divided into 6hp for the written examination, and 3 hp for each of the 3 laborations. To pass (godkänd, G) the course you need to pass all four course parts. To pass with distinction (väl godkänd, VG) you need to pass with distinction on at least 7.5hp. This means either VG on the written exam plus at least one lab, or VG on all three labs.
Please respect the deadlines! If you aim for VG on a lab, you have to submit a functioning solution within the deadline. Otherwise you have to submit whatever you have finished; explain what works and what doesn't work, and give a realistic estimate of when you think you will be finished.
The official course plan is in Swedish and can be found here: http://a0076.srv.lu.se:8080/gupdf/svenska/LT2113.pdf.
There is an English translation, but it is not officially ratified: http://clt.gu.se/sites/clt.gu.se/files/mkp/LT2113_eng.pdf.
