What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a natural alternative traditional medicinal system** based on the principle that a substance taken in small amounts will reduce the same symptoms it causes if it was taken in large amounts. In homeopathy the active ingredient is highly diluted. The greater the dilution, the more potent the medicine.
What Benefits can I gain from Homeopathic Medicines*?
Homeopathy is a widely used system of traditional medicine in the world**. Its growth in popularity in Singapore has been consistent throughout the last three decades, fueled by several success factors:
Homeopathy is effective. When the correct remedy is taken, results can be rapid & long-lasting.
Homeopathy is safe. Even senior citizens, babies and pregnant women can use Homeopathy with low risk of side effects. Homeopathic remedies can also be taken alongside conventional medication.
Homeopathy is natural. Homeopathic remedies are normally based on natural ingredients.
Homeopathy works in harmony with your immune system, unlike some conventional medicines which suppress the immune system.
Homeopathic remedies are not addictive - once relief is felt, you should stop taking them. If no relief is felt, please refer back to the homeopathy consultant who will adjust the dosage for you.
Homeopathy is holistic. It addresses all the symptoms together. It addresses the cause, not the symptoms. This often means that symptoms tackled with Homeopathy do not tend to recur.
How did Homeopathy begin?
The basic principle of Homeopathy, “individual diagnosis” was practiced as early as Hippocrates (460-377BC), who thought that symptoms specific to an individual should be taken into account before making a diagnosis. German physician Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) came to devise the system of medicine that we know as homeopathy in the late 18th century. Hahnemann trained in medicine and chemistry and was dissatisfied with the conventional medical practices of his day, disagreeing with these harsh methods. He investigated the effects of various medicinal substances on himself and other healthy volunteers. He deduced that an illness could be countered with a very small amount of a substance that, in larger quantities, could cause the illness. To avoid harmful effects from normal doses of the substances he diluted each medicine until he reached the greatest dilution that would still produce a response. These experiments were called provings and led him to observe and describe the basic principles of homeopathic medicine.
Is Homeopathy safe?
Homeopathy is safe and natural. Unlike some conventional drugs, homeopathic medicines are non-addictive and have low risk of side-effects. This is because homeopathic medicines are highly diluted and made from a very small amount of the active ingredient. Homeopathy is safe to use for babies, children and pregnant and breastfeeding women, under the supervision of a homeopathic consultant.
What should I do before visiting the Homeopathic Centre?
Your first appointment could take anything up to an hour, with follow-up appointments typically lasting 15-30 minutes. To get the most out of your consultation, it is helpful to make some notes beforehand and to think through all the issues that are affecting your health. This is a helpful way of saving time and to your advantage to do so if requested.
What happens during my Homeopathic Consultation?
Homeopathic consultants emphasize understanding the person rather than just the illness. As well as asking about your symptoms, a homeopathic consultant will be interested in you as an individual and the unique way in which your symptoms affect you. Questions about your lifestyle, eating habits and preferences, temperament, personality, sleep patterns and medical history help the consultant to form a complete picture of you. This picture will be matched to the symptoms of your illness in order to prescribe a particular type and strength of homeopathic medicine.

Should I stop my other medication ?
Not immediately. Over time you may reduce your dependence on other medications and in some cases be able to give them up completely. Homeopathy is a complementary system that helps the body to naturally combat illnesses. It is most effective during the early stages of an illness. It cannot replace all other forms of healthcare, but can be used alongside them in a wide range of conditions. Homeopathic and Western medicine can work very well alongside each other. Consulting a homeopathic consultant allows you to receive the best of both worlds, with the most effective approach tailored just for you.
