Dr. Gong is currently a Research Technician at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) from Aug. 2020. She held Ph.D. in Architecture from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from 2014-2019 with joint building technology training by Department of Architecture, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from 2017-2018.
Dr. Gong’s research focuses on big-data-driven climate-sensitive urban planning and governance in high-density urban environments. She developed a street-sensing approach using global street-view imgages to accurately quantify 3D urban street physical, solar, and thermal environments, and further explore their impacts and applications on urban climatic governance. The research approaches have solved the problem of quantifying 3D streetscape and thermal environment in global cities, which had been applied in numerous international projects and awarded the Postgraduate Research Output Award 2018, the highest graduate student award in CUHK.
She had previously participated in several key policy-level research projects commissioned by Macau SAR government, Hong Kong SAR government, and National Natural Science Foundation of China. Her work has been published in several top journals and authored books, including Nature Communications, Building and Environment, and Remote Sensing of Environment. She is also an invited reviewer for more than 10 SCI/SSCI international journals.
