Carleen Silva (PhD Student)

I grew up mostly in San Antonio, Texas and earned my B.S. in Animal Ecology from Iowa State University. I am an avid hockey fan (Go Knights!) and self-proclaimed George Washington Carver enthusiast.

I am a PhD student in Biology, co-advised by Dr. Gompper and Dr. Hanley, and a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. I am broadly interested in disease impacts on community structure and trophic interactions. My research collaborates with the USGS Western Ecological Research Center to study the effects of an emerging infectious disease, RHDV2, on lagomorphs in a previously unaffected study area. I aim not only to study the real-time effects of a spillover event, but also how declines in lagomorph population will affect the greater mammalian community.
