The Go for Gold Cycling Bunch is a group of cyclists who enjoy a common interest of cycling for recreation and fitness. Integral to the groups ethos is a notion of shared, fun, laughter and enjoyment, with being part of a group with common values as one of the main aims.
We ride on Thursday mornings at 5.15 am from Coffee Sisters and occasionally from other venues and from various venues and time on an ad hoc basis at weekends.
The aim of the group is to provide a safe cycling environment and provide opportunities to meet with friends, develop skills and to maintain or improve fitness. The group also aims to support people who want to challenge or stretch themselves, by entering external events or simply doing something that they have not done before.
Rides will be led by Ride Leaders and Coaches who are accredited by AusCycling.
Membership of the Go for Gold Cycling Bunch shall be contingent upon the following:
Being insured with AusCycling with their “Lifestyle” level of cover as a minimum. Complete here: www.auscycling.org.au/membership
Completing and signing the Membership Form. This includes agreeing to read, understand and abide by the Membership Agreement, Code of Conduct, Bunch Etiquette and Bike Safety for participation in the GOforGOLD Cycling Bunch.
After completion of the membership form, request to join the private Facebook Group: GOforGOLD Cycling Bunch to keep up to date with all the ride updates and other information pertaining to the group.
A note about insurance
Why do we insist on insurance with AusCycling?
Insurance for cyclists is important for a number of reasons:
It provides protection to riders from third party claims when the rider is deemed to have been responsible for an incident (this might include claims from other riders).
It provides protection to riders for claims from health providers who are legitimately able to claim medical expenses associated with recreational pursuits even in the public health system.
It provides protection for loss of income for those who are working.
Finally and most importantly with regards to the Go for Gold bunch cycling group it provide protection to Ride Leaders and Coaches who are accredited with AusCycling from claims that might reasonably arise from their actions and decisions. Only AusCycling Insurance provides this – insurance with Bicycle Queensland for example does not.
It is therefore for this final reason that we must insist that all members hold insurance with AusCycling (AusCycling Queensland is part of the same organisation, but not Bicycle Queensland).
To join AusCycling please visit auscycling.org.au/membership and choose the “Lifestyle” cover option. We recommend putting Gold Coast Cycling Club as your local club.
