Kiss - The Farewell Tour

Rod Laver Arena - Melbourne, Australia - 4th April 2001

Home of the Australian Open Tennis Tournament

This is the final leg of the Kiss - The Farewell Tour 2001, the 2nd of 3 shows in Melbourne, and one of the last shows they might ever do in this country. Every Melbourne show was sold out with about 15,000 screaming fans at each. I'm sure some people went twice or even to all three shows. The ticket price for the back seating was AU$93.95, or about US$46.50 at the current exchange rate (AU$1=US$0.495).

The concert was clear, loud, raw and energetic, with thundering bass. Just what the fans wanted! Eric Singer played drums for the Australian tour because of Peter Criss's poor health. I'd seen Kiss on two other occasions and this was the best!

Techo stuff...

The 18 photographs on this page were taken using a Kodak DC3400 2.1 mexapixel digital camera. I was sitting almost front-on to the stage, but behind the floor area, and up in the top tier of seating (Upper JJ seat 324). That's about 60 - 70 metres from the stage, but the view was still quite good. The optical 2x zoom was used on the camera with the highest quality resolution. The shots were taken hand-held. Mounting the camera on a tripod would have given sharper images, but they just don't allow those things into rock concerts!

The images were cropped down to about half size and saved as x50 compressed JPEGs for this gallery. The total size is 500KB and they will take about 90 seconds to load via a 56K modem running flat out.

Enjoy the photos,

Glenn

Lessee.. Who's on this month? Kiss, Kylie Minogue, Charley Pride,

Alice Cooper. Not playing all together I hope.

Gene, Paul and Ace descend from heaven on a mini stage. Eric descends on his own stage at the back.

Ready to Rock!

Paul warms up the crowd.

A slip of the tongue from Gene.

Ace puts his guitar into orbit during his solo.

Pleading for more noise.

Gene gets bloody for God Of Thunder.

And belts out a few low notes.

Gimme a light!

Paul decides to get closer to the fans.

I think Eric's hair caught on fire!

Now that's a drum riser!

Back for some encores.

The confetti rains down for Rock N Roll All Night.

There's still time to let off a few more pyros.

Ace gets out some more notes just before the final bows.

All over, for now...
