Activity general requirements

INTRODUCTION

The following are general requirements for activities. Additional more specific information is provided on the page Rules and Safety Information.

TRANSPORT

As far as reasonable we minimise the number of vehicles for activities. Occasionally a 4WD is necessary to access the activity area. Passengers are requested to contribute to the vehicle owner’s fuel cost.

ACTIVITY LEADERS

Activity Leaders are appointed for all Club activities. Leaders usually have a good knowledge of the area through which the activity is taking place. If the activity is described as “exploratory” it means that the leader has not previously travelled the full route and some conditions may be unknown.

CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT

Clothing and equipment required will depend on the type of activity. In order to ensure the safety of participants there are minimum recommended requirements for clothing and equipment. Details of these requirements are available on the Rules & Safety Information page, refer particularly to Risk Management.

For a day activity these items can be carried in a small daypack with food (lunch &/or snacks) & perhaps insect repellent. Plastic soft drink bottles make good water containers.

We often boil the billy at lunch times, so do bring tea or coffee and a mug. Cameras and binoculars may be useful. Take bathers wherever there may be an opportunity for swimming.

Participants should be aware that many activities occur in remote wilderness areas and as such should always be prepared for unforeseen eventualities such as being delayed and not being able to return to the activity finish point at the planned time, including the possibility of not returning on the scheduled day.

Further information is available on the Rules & Safety Information page, refer particularly to Risk Management.

WALKS RATING KEY

Walks are allocated a rating based on the degree of difficulty from * to ***** as described below.

Please note that the walk leader may require minimum standards of clothing and equipment before permitting any walker to participate in Club activities
