Girl Scouts has been around for a long time and surely you have an idea of the uniform but....what do we actually do at meetings? Here are some examples.
Community (all age) events: 1x a month
We can't sell cookies if we are not on a military base, so we had a book sale instead.
Christmas party where we collected food and other items to donate. Older girls made cosmetics, younger girls made a snowman from a sock.
Hiking and a picnic at a park in Kita-ku.
Talking about the environment for World Thinking Day at a park in Suma-ku.
Tea party where we learned table manners and invited a guest.
Camp.
Troop events: 1x a month
Daisy, grades K-1 & Brownie, grades 2-3: taking a walk and painting the colors we saw in nature. Writing letters to Scouts in the USA. Discussing what is needed for camp, having a relay with those items.
Junior, grades 4-5: horseback riding, creating a shake-proof mini structure, making a campfire.
Cadette, grades 6-8: skiing, rafting, archery. Experiences taking care of young children and consulting those who care for young children.
Senior, grades 9-10 & Ambassador, grades 11-12: our older girls are working towards Gold Awards. We had a Scout achieve a Gold Award in 2021-2022. It's a laudable effort and can even lead to a scholarship.
