Gilles Lafforgue

I hold a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Toulouse 1 in 2002.

I have been Assistant Professor at the Agrocampus Ouest from 2003 to 2005. In 2005, I got a full research position at the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA) and I joined the Department of Environmental and Natural Resource Economics (LERNA) in Toulouse. In 2009, I became research fellow at the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) and associated researcher at the Institute of Industrial Organization (IDEI).

Since 2012, I am Associate Professor of Economics at Toulouse Business School (TBS) and associate researcher at Toulouse School of Economics (member of the TSE Climate and Energy Center). 

My research fields are the economics of natural resources, climate change, energy and growth.

My works focus on the interactions between long-run growth, climate change, technical change and energy choices. They aim at tackling a crucial stake which is twofold and apparently contradictory: on the one hand, a sustainable economic growth trend – process that consumes a lot of energy – on the other hand, the mitigation of anthropogenic CO2 emissions and the cut in the carbon footprint of fossils. I develop dynamical models of energy uses (theoretical as well as integrated assessment models) to deal with this issue and I investigate two options in particular: i) the energy substitution process and ii) the control of carbon emissions thanks to specific abatement technologies such as the carbon capture and storage one (CCS). More recently, I have been involved into research projects on recycling and circular economy., with a closed link with the climate issue.
