She is a 6 month old Bloodhound out of Ohio. She is trained to track and recover wounded deer. I started training her when she was 7 weeks old. Currently, she successfully tracks deer from 24 - 48 hours old out to a mile long. She will do a 48 hour old track this week if it cools down.
Daisy and Glenn took the United Blood Trackers I Certification in August. Daisy performed flawlessly and earned high praise from the three judges. This UBT certification will allow them to register with the Michigan DNR as a certified tracking team. Most dogs take the UBT test at a 1 -2 years old. She was 6 months old when she took and passed her test. The judges set her up with a blind 760 yard deer hoof track that was 6 hours old. It was 92 degrees and just as humid that afternoon. The test calls for a 400 yard track and Glenn wondered if they chuckled when he signed her up to take the test at 6 months old and they set up with a tough track? Who knows, but 7 dogs tested and only 2 passed. She was the only puppy. We were last of the day so we had an audience of previous trackers follow our testing track. We had the best judge in the nation out of Wisconsin as lead judge. Its been a long time since I’ve been taken out of my comfort zone but that day with the legendary judge and the audience Glenn was definitely swimming upstream. The end result was Daisy smoked the track.
Glenn was grateful for the judges assessment of Their performance. Daisy’s calm demeanor and desire to track is a pleasure to watch. Glenn however, is still learning the craft. She is clearly carrying this tracking team!
If you, a friend or family member place a unfavorable shot on a deer, feel free to back out, don’t track any further and give Glenn a call. They will be glad to come out and lend you a hand. Feel free to store his cell number in your phone contact list and Good luck!
