Welcome to English 12! I am so excited to teach English and to work with all of you. I believe that students thrive best in an organized environment. With this virtual/online setting, I will make every effort to keep our class running effectively and efficiently.
Novels/Articles:
Novels and articles will be provided in electronic format. Students must have access to a computer and the internet at home to complete assignments. Students without this access will need to make alternative arrangements to complete assignments, such as using the local public library, the WSU student library, etc.
Assignment Headers:
All assignments should have a proper heading in the upper right-hand corner of the paper, as follows:
Student’s first and last name: Iron Man
Class & Period: English 12, Period 3
Date: 8/23/25
Expectations:
1. Attendance in a virtual class is very important. It does require self-direction and self-discipline. You are expected to log in and participate on a regular basis. Students should check Canvas daily.
2. You are expected to have a basic knowledge and skill level in Canvas, our course management system.
3. Complete required tasks on time. Please use good grammar and spelling when posting online.
4. As a member of an online learning community, you will participate in online discussions. Please respond in a respectful manner, valuing one another's opinions and ideas.
5. Communicate any questions/problems with the teacher. I am always available through email, and we will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face through Google Meet. I am also available for in-person appointments during your English period, at lunch, and after school.
Plagiarism and Cheating:
NUAMES is an early college high school partnered with Weber State University, and cheating of any kind is unacceptable. Plagiarism is the attempt to perpetrate an academic fraud by claiming another’s work as your own. Any attempt to claim credit for another’s work, in whole or in part, will result, at the minimum, in a “0” on the assignment. The partnership that NUAMES has with Weber State is invaluable, and we don’t want to jeopardize that relationship.
AI tools are wonderful and have so many applications in everyday life. For example, you may use it to help you when you need to generate a title for something. However, PLEASE DO NOT USE AI tools to write essays and book reports. Plagiarism software is good at detecting this. If your AI report shows 30% or higher, you will be required to meet with me to get a score. If it is higher than 50%, you will be given a zero on the paper. Essays and book reports should reflect your hard work and competency, not an effortless shortcut.

LATE WORK
Students are strongly encouraged to submit assignments on time. If this is not possible, please let me know, and we will work it out. I want to be flexible. I will allow late work throughout the quarter, but it will be assessed a penalty, depending on how late it is.
