Exemplification was made for the followings case studies:

a. Optimization of the multi-enzymatic reactor for D-glucose oxidation to keto-glucose in the presence of pyranose oxidase and catalase (Maria & Crisan, 2015,2017);

b. Optimization of the multi-enzymatic reactor for fructose reduction to mannitol in the presence of MDH (mannitol dehydrogenase) and NADH (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide). The process co-factor NADH is continuously regenerated in-situ by the expense of formate decomposition in the presence of FDH (Formate dehydrogenase) (Maria & Crisan, 2017);

c. Optimization of the multi-enzymatic reactor for inuline hydrolysis (Maria, 2012);

d. Optimization of the multi-enzymatic reactor for starch hydrolysis (Maria, 2012);

e. Optimization of the tri-phase bioreactor for mercury ions removal from wastewaters by using bacterial cultures immobilized on porous alginate supports (Scoban & Maria, 2016,2017).

f. Optimization of the tri-phase bioreactor for mercury ions removal from wastewaters by using a fluidised-bed bioreactor and bacterial immobilised cultures of Pseudomonas putida cells (Maria, Luţă, 2013; Scoban & Maria, 2016).

g. Optimization of the bioreactor used for the tryptophan production by using a culture of E. coli (Maria et al.,2018);

h. In-silico derivation of optimal control policies for a batch, or a semi-batch bioreactor for monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) production using a hybridoma cell culture (Maria et al., 2019).

- Quantitative risk and sensitivity analysis and optimization of chemical reactors:

- (thermal) sensitivity analysis of the following reactors: nitrobenzene hydrogenation; benzene oxidation; methanol conversion to olefins and gasoline; enzymatic oxidation of monosaccharides, etc.;

- risk analysis of wastewater biological treatment plants;

- catalytic reactors operated in an oscillatory regime (methylcyclohexane dhydrogenation; enzymatic oxidation of monosaccharides, other enzymatic processes);

- (bio)chemical reactor optimization.

- Development of dynamic models to simulate bioprocesses at a molecular level under a variable-volume whole-cell approach: genetic expression; genetic regulatory networks; protein synthesis; metabolic processes. The novel introduced VVWC (isotonic, variable-volume-whole-cell) models using modular genetic regulatory circuits (GRC models are successfully used to derive genetic modified micro-organisms (GMO ) of desirable characteristics.
