My source was the 1993 tutorial.
Cut a side from a carboard box and then cut said side into an island-esque shape. Make sure one corner sticks out more than the others to leave space for the runway Thunderbird 2 takes off from. For the hangar Thunderbird 2 is held in, you need to cover the opening of a tissue box where the tissues come out of, cut out the shorter sides and cut off one of the ends at an angle. Stick the tissue box at an angle near the sticking out corner. To make the control tower, you need to paint a cheese pot grey, stick it on to the tissue box, cut a quarter from a paper bowl and stick it on the cheese pot.
Now you take a yogurt pot that is large enough to hold your Thunderbird 1 toy and a toilet roll (with no toilet paper of course) that is large enough to fit your Thunderbird 3 toy. It is time to make papermarche. You have to mix flour with water with flour being continuously added to give the mixture a slimy texture. What really brings the rocky terrain of Tracy Island to life is the scrunched up paper that is stuck to the papermarche that is painted around the buildings and is then painted over the scrunched up paper. Make sure that all of the buildings and corners except Thunderbird 3's toilet roll launch pad and the corner that pretrudes out the most are covered in this concoction. In order to flatten specific areas of the island, you need to cut out flat pieces of paper and stick them down.
The material that gives the rocky terrain a...um...rocky texture is tin foil. That will wrap nicely around the island. The paint you are supposed to use give the rocks the brown color is brown matte emoltion paint - the same has to be used for the plantations. You will need to smother the island in coats of paint for the right effect. The grassy texture of the plantation is made possible by mixing the paint with sawdust. Any fan of Thunderbirds would know there is an area of sand in the middle of the front of Tracy Island as well as a cavern round the back. To make these areas resemble their TV series counterparts, you have to cover the surfaces with sandpaper.
To make the windows of the control tower that is located above the hangar that Thunderbird 2 is held in, you need to take plain white rectangular stickers, colour them black and stick them delicately on the front. Painting them on is an option but it is the opinion of the writing staff of Blue Peter in 1993 that "the sticker way" comes across as more neat. The door of the hangar that Thunderbird 2 is held in must be a small rectangular piece of carboard that, as well as being covered in the same brown-painted tin foil as the rest of the island, must have a small "lip" that does not have to be painted because it will always be concealed. The runway is just a rectangular piece of carboard with a coat of grey paint and white line painted on.
We must now move on to creating the swimming pool that is located above the launch pad that Thunderbird 1 is held in. You take 2 circular pieces of card with one being larger than the other. You then cut out a circular piece of the larger piece of card that must be around the same size as the smaller piece of card. Make a frame that is split into squares for the smaller piece of card and then colour the area that is surrounded by the frame in blue. Cover the hole in the larger piece of card with the smaller piece of card and stick a pin through the top right hand corner of the smaller piece of card then place it over the toilet roll launch pad.
It is about time we got back to the launch pad that Thunderbird 3 is held in. You have to cut out a piece of card that must look like a hybrid of an oval and a circle with a hole with the same circumference as the toilet roll that is sticking out. This is when we get to the lookout tower. You must take a pot that is used for particularly small plants, cut a hole with the same circumference as the toilet roll, cut out a circular piece of card that must 1/4 of a centimetre wider than the pot, cut a hole out of said piece of card with the same circumference as the toilet roll and stick the piece of card over the top of the pot. Paint the pot white with a lighter shade for the windows. 2 of these "windows" have got to be painted black for there to be a door.
The villa uses the lid of a cheesebox as it's base. You need to stick a matchbox near the bottom of the lid with a more cut up matchbox being stuck near the top of the lid. Make sure you cut a square out of the larger matchbox for the piece of polystyrene that is used for the chimney to fit in. You must then take another small matchbox and stick it over a piece of carboard that has the same dimensions as the cheesebox lid with the small matchbox being stuck near the right. Stick the cheesebox lid on top of the small matchbox and paint the whole thing white. For the pillars, you need to cut a straw into little pieces.
Steps are made using tinsy pieces of card and wood. There must be stairs to the right of the lookout tower, the left of the swimming pool and the front of the villa. Vegetation are just ripped up pieces of bath sponge dabbed in green paint. For the palm tree that surround the runway, the branches should brown painted pipe cleaners whereas the leaves should green painted crate paper. You need to stab the vegetation around the runway with a pencil to make holes for the trees.
