About me:
I am a Computer Vision (CV) and Machine Learning (ML) researcher and engineering leader with experience spanning academia and industry. Throughout my career, I have worked at the intersection of research and engineering, progressing from research and hands-on development to technical leadership of teams and organizations. Over the past decade, my work has focused primarily on CV/ML for Augmented Reality glasses, while also addressing related challenges in robotics and other embodied systems.
Since November 2019, I have been with Snap and SPECS in Vienna, Austria, where I currently serve as Senior Manager, CV Engineering, and am part of the technical leadership of the Computer Vision organization, working across several teams developing CV/ML solutions for Spectacles and SPECS. Prior to Snap, I was a Sr. Scientist of Daqri working across Dublin, Sunnyvale and Vienna, from January 2016.
I received my PhD from the University of Patras, Greece, in 2008. I then joined the Machine Learning group at Fraunhofer IAIS, Germany, as a postdoctoral researcher and ERCIM Fellow in 2009, followed by a position as Research Scientist in the Perception Team at INRIA Grenoble, France, in 2012.
My expertise spans Geometric CV and Machine Learning, with a particular recent focus on perception systems for AR glasses and related real-world applications. My research has been published in leading computer vision journals and conferences, including PAMI, IJCV, ECCV, and ICCV. In 2019, I completed an Engineering Leadership Certificate from Cornell University.
