The idea behind...
The project and the acronym geohint was born from the fusion of two different terms moving in parallel: geoint and hint. The term geoint is the product of two more general concepts: geospatial and intelligence.
Geospatial intelligence refers to the collection, organization, analysis, and dissemination of information on the position and complementary attributes of physical features, man-made structures, moving objects, people, events and activities. Thus, it covers a wide range of diverse applications, ranging from environmental monitoring and emergency response to social media monitoring.
The term hint instead is the completion of this project, i.e.: to provide tools, information, suggestions, or simply discuss, regarding the techniques, approaches and progresses of geospatial intellingence and the joint use of the two.
The classical Intelligence architecture has to be modified to accept the geolocation attribute. Nowadays the geospatial data represent a huge amount of information that cannot be neglected. At the same time, represent the information extracted and processed into a geospatial environment (maps, geotags, georss, etc.) is the most intuitive way to aggregate data and display them.
For what concern us, we think that we are entering into an era of geo-location Intelligence in which the availability of very large data sets, imagery, new methods of extracting pertinent information, and the ability to process that information will enable a new level of understanding of what exists or could exist in our world.
With this in mind we are trying to share our knowledge in order to develop a proper environment for the discussion of comparison within the site.
