This list includes commentaries that give detailed attention to the Greek text and use more recent methods of analysis. Students are required to use modern commentaries in their exegetical assignments in order to become acquainted with resources that are scholarly and up-to-date. Older commentaries may be used, too. The number of pages gives some indication of how detailed the analysis is. If your commentary is not on this list, it does not count as a “modern, major” work. If you’d like a book to be added to this list, please contact the instructor. Most homiletical or expositional commentaries, despite being useful, are not suited for academic work. You may cite them, but they do not count toward the minimum of modern, major works.
I have provided links for books that are available in Amazon's "search inside" feature. You generally need to have an account and log in in order to see the pages. Many of these books can also be searched on books.google.com. For example, search there for "parable of the wedding banquet" schnackenburg and you will see much of what Schnackenburg writes about this passage. Some books are also available on barnesandnoble.com - sometimes different pages can be seen. Scribd.com also displays contents of books - some of them visible only if you subscribe (a free one-month trial is offered).
