Gavin Ryan Shafron, Ph.D is a NY State Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Psychotherapist, Professor, Speaker, Consultant, and Addiction Specialist. Dr. Shafron received degrees, certificates, and advanced training from Columbia University, Stanford University, UCLA, the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, UCSF and Harvard Medical School.

Clinically, Dr. Shafron holds specialties in the treatment of anxiety and depression, relationship stress, psychotherapy/coaching for high achievers + creatives, personality disorder diagnosis and treatment, and, the integration of Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic Theory and therapy.

Dr. Shafron's previous clinical roles include serving as group psychotherapist at CSPP's Psychological Services Center in Oakland, CA., psychotherapist at the Alliance Health Project: Services for the LGBTQ+ communities at the University of California, San Francisco, and psychotherapist the college counseling center training programs of Santa Rosa Junior College Student Psychological Services and the Baruch College Counseling Center in addition to his current clinical role in group private practice.

Academically, Dr. Shafron has served on the faculty of various community colleges and 4 year universities in the San Francisco Bay area, New York City and Los Angeles county. Dr. Shafron's research has been published in numerous peer reviewed academic journals on topics ranging from psychological ethics and child and media psychology, to musical preference and psychomusicology. As a self-described "metalhead," Dr. Shafron is especially interested in what drives listening and musical preference for hard rock and heavy metal music along with how media interacts with emotion.

Administratively, Dr. Shafron served as a staff psychotherapist and substance abuse specialist at Baruch College, founding the college's first Substance Abuse Prevention Program and administering the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) College Environmental Prevention Grant.

Currently, Dr. Shafron serves on the faculty of Cal State University, Northridge, Los Angeles Valley College, and Los Angeles Pierce College within the LA Community College District and as a NYS Licensed Psychologist seeing patients for individual and couples psychotherapy through Clarity Therapy NYC. Finally, Dr. Shafron also serves as a speaker and consultant through Shafron Psychological Services, working with university administrations and on businesspeople to help his consultees apply psychological research to make their work more effective.
