Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to audition to participate in the Pep Band?
    • No auditions necessary! The Gaucho Pep Band is open to all musicians wanting to join.
  • When and where do y'all meet?
    • We have practice every Wednesday in the Founder's Room in the Thunderdome at 7 pm (This is the events center on campus). We meet in the Thunderdome before all the games as well. Email us to join our email list in order to receive game/practice updates!
  • I usually rent my instrument. Do I need to have my own instrument to join?
    • Due to the 'student-run' aspect of Pep Band, we do not have a surplus of instruments available to borrow. It is ideal to have and bring your own instrument, however we can connect you with local instrument rentals. Feel free to email us before renting to check and see if we do have your instrument in storage!
  • Do y'all march?
    • Unfortunately, UCSB does not have a football team so we do not have a marching band. We are strictly Pep, meaning we play in the stands (not on the field) of the sporting events. Say goodbye to sweaty marching band uniforms!
  • I play guitar, can I join?
    • Heck yes! We have guitar and bass players and welcome more each year. We can plug in amps in the stands. Come check us out!
  • Do you have a drum line?
    • Because we don't march, we don't (currently) have a drum line. We depend on a drum set and other auxiliary percussion. Unlike the other instruments, we have plenty of percussion instruments available to use. MORE COWBELL
  • I'm worried about joining too many clubs or being overwhelmed with classes. How much time does Pep Band require?
    • The fun part about being student run and not marching is that Pep Band doesn't have to be a huge commitment. While we do request that you show up to the majority of practices and games, school and mental/physical health always come first. Come when you can!
