A Radio-Internet Gateway for Emergency Communications
Extreme weather events can seriously affect official communications
Radio amateurs often get the message out in the hours after the disaster has struck
During October 2006 - October 2010, UK radio amateur Steve Richards G4HPE was granted a Notice of Variation by the UK regulatory body, OfCom, permitting a Special Research Project to be undertaken.
The purpose of the research was to explore the practicality of a gateway that links Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) speech with the amateur radio spectrum at HF (short wave) for potential use as an aid to emergency communications.
This website provides a focus for those interested in the research.
