WELCOME

I am Gary Barnes, a consultant and counselor/therapist in private practice in Corvallis, Oregon. I have over 30 years of clinical experience providing services to individuals, couples, families, and organizations. My goal is to provide effective counseling and consultation services in a supportive and caring environment.  I believe that it takes a lot of courage to ask for help, and when you invite me into your life or organization, I assume this as a privilege and responsibility on my part. I am inspired by the many people whom I have seen work through struggles with dignity and resolve. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.

Pandemic update: I am now providing in-office sessions for clients who are fully vaccinated. I continue to offer  Telemental Health sessions as well.

PRACTICE SPECIALTIES

Counseling Services

For the 32 years I have practiced in Corvallis, my unique focus is geared toward helping both individuals and organizations with the day to day problems that arise from our human interactions and experiences.  Since 2012, I have had my own private practice, and now focus my professional efforts on providing direct individual and couples counseling services to adults and serve a very broad and diverse group of clientele.

My approach is "eclectic;" meaning I borrow from many therapy traditions and modalities and my experience, to provide the best that I can offer for your unique situation. I am informed by  Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Family Systems, Feminist Theories,  and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), among others. I view all individuals and couples within the context of their home, work, financial, and social environments. Some of the issues I commonly address are:

·        Anxiety

·        Depression

·       Relationship issues

·       Grief and Loss

·        Life transitions

·        Workplace issues

·        Health challenges

·       Substance abuse

·        Men's issues

Employer and Employee Assistance Program services

For much of my career, I focused my efforts toward helping promote organizational health for local employers.  I started and grew an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) business by selling EAP services to local employers and offering counseling, consultations, training, and other organizational services.  I became part of a larger EAP, first through PeaceHealth, and then with Reliant Behavioral Health (RBH) based in Portland.  Today I am working independently, but experience providing:

·     Brief, solution-focused, counseling

·    Consultations with supervisors and HR concerning troubled employees or workgroups

·        Leadership development and team interventions

·        Coworker Conflict Interventions

·        Training on topics related to the human aspects of work

·         On-site debriefings following a death or critical incident
