Three undeniable facts are at the core of Gamou Farms' establishment:
1- The fast climatic, economic and political changes are a serious threat to global food security.
2- No country has ever prospered without a serious agricultural reform embedded in strong policies and an unwavering devotion to Agricultural Education.
3- Mali is a nation of farmers, 70% of the active population farms less than 2% of its 14% tillable land. And yet Mali imports cereals and $30 million worth of dairy products every year despite its 9 million head of cattle.
To combat this growing food insecurity Gamou Farms provides hands-on agriculture training to future decision makers, producers and agribusiness leaders.
Mali and many other countries in the developing world must rely on themselves and less on developed countries or nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in order to feed their people. The best and surest way for that is through education and training so local populations can produce and run their own businesses to reach a level of food security.
As a farm and training center, Gamou will take students from 'class to production', who, in turn will better the industry and the country as a whole.
As a first in Mali and the region, this Pioneering center will not only train graduates, but also assists them with jobs or startup businesses. It is also unique in that it is the only Farm that will create and sell superior genetics on demand and the first pasture-based farm to practice Management Intensive Grazing.
GAMOU FARMS teaches the best adapted practices at the core of the agricultural success in Europe and the US, just what is needed on the ground in developing countries like Mali.
