We are excited to share that we are building on our Summer '24 success and expanding our creative workshops for the Summer of 2025! Join us as we explore Lake Minnetonka through art, history, nature, people, events, and more with kids grades K-5!
Registration is now closed. Please watch for our Second Saturday events throughout the school year!
Schedule
Each workshop consists of 3 morning (9am - 12) or 3 afternoon sessions (1-4pm).
Morning sessions are 9am - 12, afternoon sessions are 1-4pm.
Workshop Format
Each workshop is grounded at the intersection of place-based education and creativity and is designed to give participants opportunities to explore different aspects of Lake Minnetonka/the region and create! Guided by this mission, every workshop includes:
🐟 Short "learning and exploration" segments focused on Lake Minnetonka (or regional) features, ecology, history, people and/or events. Examples include games, videos, exploring historic photos and postcards, a visit from a local historian and short learning walks along the Dakota Rail Regional Trail that runs behind our Gallery.
🐟 Explorations of the Elements of Art or creative tools used in our projects.
🐟 A lot of creation time!
🐟 A Gallery Walk for participants to share their work with parents/guardians/special persons for the last 10 minutes of each Session.
🐟 A take-home "investigation guide" with extension ideas and resources to explore at home
🐟 2-4 unique pieces created by each participant to keep.
Location: Workshops take place in our gallery space which is tucked inside a corner of Meisel's warehouse. We will also be outside when possible.
Participants: Workshops are open to all who have completed grades K-5. Our small class sizes ensure a participant-instructor ratio of 3.5-1.
