Memorial to the Men of Frimley and Camberley
This website is a memorial to all the men and women that fought and died in the two world wars, who were born or have a connection to Frimley, Camberley or the immediate surrounding area.
233 men are recorded for the Great War 1914 - 1918 and a further 128 men and 1 woman are recorded for the Second World War 1939 - 1945 on the Camberley War Memorial, although through my research I have come across many others whose names were not recorded and they are named here.
From Private to Brigadier, WW1 flying Ace to Battle of Britain hero, WW1 trench warfare to WW2 Commando raider, Great War Tanks to WW2 Desert Rats, Stoker to Submarine Captain, Infamous Royal Naval ships to Bomber Command aircrew, Japanese Prisoners to German Prison escapes, from Desert to Jungle, night-time flying operations to undersea deployments, every aspect of both world wars on every continent there was somebody from Camberley or Frimley in the thick of the fray.

This website commemorates all those named on local memorials and always adding those who served and survived the fighting in both World Wars.

St. Tarcisius, Camberley, Surrey. (The church was designed by Frederick Walters as a War Memorial for fallen British Catholic military officers in the First World War. The foundation stone of the church was laid on the 12th of September 1923, and by the 18th of November 1924, the church was opened. In 2005 the church was designated Grade II.)

The Camberley War Memorial is located on the London Road (A30) outside the entrance to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the Staff College, Camberley, Surrey.
The War Office granted a 999-year lease on the land where the memorial is located. A latin cross, made from grey Cornish stone was unveiled by the Duke of Connaught on the 30th of August 1922.
Local residents had raised £2000 and £700 was spent on purchasing the cross, its delivery from Penryn, etching the names and laying out the base. The remaining money was spent to endow beds at Frimley Cottage Hospital.
