Mutual Aid Response: On September 11, 2010, Special Operations 50 attended the annual In the Streets festival on Market Street downtown. All types of displays including fire and EMS apparatus set up as part of a day to promote the business in the downtown Frederick area. The event started at 0800 and went until 1700.

Mutual Aid Response: Engine 502 was dispatched at 1838 from Fred. Co. station 15, after being transferred there to cover while they operated at a barn fire, for a motorcycle accident on I-70 west bound at the 64 mm. Engine 502 was the first to arrive and immediately called for aviation for a priority 2 category B trauma patient. Engine 502's officer then established I-70 command, placed squad 3 in service and held engine 331 to handle the landing zone in front of the accident scene. Carroll County medic 17 & 18 arrived soon after and started patient care. Patient was loaded in the back of CCM 17 and when trooper 3 arrived the patient was then loaded into the trooper 3 and taken to shock trauma. Command then was terminated and units cleared at 1924.

Mutual Aid Response: At 1415 hours on 5/6/10, E-502 dispatched to fill the 1st alarm assignment. Crew from E-502 went to the command post and was assigned to the side "C" division with FD201. Crew took 1-3/4 line to division 4 to assist with fire attack. After 5 mins. of working on 4th division the crew was forced to evacuate. The crew was reassigned to side "A" for standby. After having a face to face with command, crew again was assigned to 3rd division for fire attack and overhaul. After working for 30 mins. the crew was pulled out and sent to rehab. This was our final assignment. Engine 502 returned to service at 1932.

Mutual Aid Response: At 0709 a reported fire in the church at 12 South Church Street in Middletown sent Truck 50 responding. Truck 50 arrived on scene and Command-7 advised to take side "A". Truck 50 advised Command-7 that they would be the first arriving Truck and then was advised to go to side "C & D" by Chief-8. Truck 50 set up and laddered roof and start to ventilate side "C" of the roof. Crew found fire and smoke visible. Crew found the roof to be soft and was ordered off the roof. Truck 50 then was ordered to us the aerial on side "D" of the main peak of the roof. Crew found a slate roof and wooden shakes and plywood roof. Crew used ventilation Saws and cut 10x10 hole and found heavy smoke exiting the ventilation hole, Truck 41 Crew assisted with opening a second hole in roof. Command-7 was advised of the fire and smoke conditions in the main Church area. Crew finished ventilation task on side "D" and then was reassigned to "C" sector roof area to cut rafters and provide fire extinguishment. Crew found a rubber membrane roof and plaster ceiling to cut through. Truck 50 crew was assigned salvage and overhaul inside of the church on side "C". Crew helped pick up hose and equipment, after rehab Truck 50 was placed in service by Command-7 at 1151 hours.

Mutual Aid Response: At 0904 Engine 502 was dispatched along with Co. 2 units for reported truck fire. Engine 22 arrived on the scene with a working fire in the trailer. The driver detached from the trailer when the fire was noticed. The Refrigerated rear portion of the trailer caught on fire, caused by the rupture of the diesel tank for the refrigerant. 502 crew assisted Engine 22 crew with extinguishment, and overhaul. Engine 502 returned to service at 0934.

Mutual Aid Response: The early morning hours of 1-15-10 at 0456, Engine 502 was requested to respond to Montgomery County on I-270 and Montrose Road to assist with a tanker truck that was fully involved. Engine 502 arrived on the scene and was assigned to Eastern Division to protect the Command Post in the event of a running fuel fire. Crew pulled 2 foam lines for protection. Upon arrival of Dullas International Airports crash truck the fire was extinguished. Command then released Engine 502 after repacking the hand lines. The engine went in service at 0842.

Mutual Aid Response: On 1-14-10 at 0842, Engine 502 responded to Rt. 15 and Hayward Road for another vehicle accident with entrapment. Engine 502 arrived on the scene first and Capt. 50 assumed Rt. 15 Command. Command confirmed a 2 vehicle accident with 1 entrapped and called for aeromedical. The crew from the Engine along with Rescue Squad 2 worked to free the trapped driver. Rescue Engine 11 arrived on the scene and provided protection for Trooper 3 which landed on RT. 15 while the roadway was shut down. Upon completion of extrication and the patient being flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma, Rt. 15 Command placed all units in service at 0923. Engine 502 returned to service.

Retirement: On Thursday 12-17-2009 the Ft. Detrick Fire and Emergency Services hosted a retirement party for Kim Anderson who was retiring after 29 years and 7 months of exemplary service. Kim started at Martinsburg VA center as a firefighter and then came to Ft. Detrick in 1985 where he spent the next 24 years. Kim spent 4 years in the US Navy as well. His humor and experience will be sorely missed. Kim received several awards for his service. We were able to get most of the previously retired guys and past employees of Fire and Emergency Services here together for the celebration. Congratulations Kim on your retirement. Mutual Aid Response: On 12/17/09, At 0723 Box 1-11 was sounded for the apartment building on fire with multiple people trapped at 124 Willowdale Drive at Brookside Apartments. Engine 502 responded and arrived on the scene and supplied Engine 31. While rescue efforts progressed, the crew of Engine 502 assisted the crew from Engine 31 with stretching a garden apartment line to the Charlie side of the building with a standpipe pack. In all several victims had to be rescued via ground ladders and aerial devices. A Safety and a second alarm assignment was requested. Upon completion, Engine 502 was placed in service at 0826.

Mutual Aid Response: On 12/17/09, Engine 502 was sent to RT-15 Southbound and Sunday's Lane for a vehicle accident. Upon arrival of emergency crews, the driver was found to be unconscious in the vehicle. Squad 2 crew began to remove the drivers door and roof the vehicle to free the driver. Engine 502 crew pulled a protection line while the extrication continued. Trooper 3 was requested to the scene and transported the victim to an area trauma center. Engine 502 returned to service at 1957.

Mutual Aid Response: On 12-1-09 at 1613, Engine 12 arrived on the scene with heavy fire on the 2nd floor of the apartment complex. Truck 50 responded to 2100 Whitehall Road for a reported townhouse on fire. Truck 50 arrived as the first due Truck on Side A and the crew set ground ladders as the operator laddered the roof. Truck 50 crew completed a search of the fire floor with negative results. The crew then completed ventilation and assisted with salvage and overhaul. Truck 50 returned to service at 1942.

Mutual Aid Response: On 11-12-09 at 0155 AM Engine 502 was sent to 146 West South Street for the house on fire. Engine 502 arrived on the scene and laid 350 feet of 4" hose in the street from a hydrant at Washington and McMurray streets to supply Engine 12 for operations on Side C of the structure. 502 crew operated with the crew from Engine 12 and Tower 1 on Side C and Bravo Exposure #1 with fire attack and extinguishment. Crews performed salvage and overhaul until completed and released by Command at 0636.

Mutual Aid Response: On Thursday October 8, 2009 at 1451, Engine 502 was dispatched and responded to Rt. 15 Southbound and Hayward Road to set up an landing zone for Trooper 3 to fly a victim from the scene of an auto accident at the Intersection to Shock Trauma. Engine 502 arrived on the scene and shut down both travel lanes of Route 15 Southbound to land Trooper 3. After the patient was loaded into the helicopter, Command released Engine 502 at 1522.

Mutual Aid Response: On 10/4/09 at 1836 hours, Box 3-36 sounded for reported duplex with heavy smoke coming from the roof sending Engine 502 on the call. Chief 3-2 arrived on the scene advising of a working attic fire and he was assuming Command. Upon arrival of Chief 3, he assumed Command and had Chief 3-2 assume Interior Operations. Upon arrival of Engine 502 the crew was assigned to Division 2 of the fire building to perform fire extinguishment and salvage and overhaul operations. Upon completion, crews remained on the scene while the County Fire marshal Investigated. Engine 502 was released by Command at 2102.

Mutual Aid Response: On 9/2/09 at 1528 Engine 502 responded to Route 15 and Hayward Road for a vehicle accident with entrapment. Upon arrival, Engine 502 crew began extrication of a patient from a gray vehicle with the on board Hurst Combo Rescue Tool. 502 crew was assisted by Rescue Squad 3. Upon completion of extrication and packaging of the patient for transport, Engine 502 was placed in service by Command 2 at 1622.
