I have worked in the field of psychological problems for over 40 years – as a social worker, counsellor and psychotherapist. I trained as a social worker at the University of Keele in 1975, as a counsellor at the University of Kent in 1983 and as cognitive behavioural therapist at the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre in 1994.
I have been an accredited counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) since 1991 and an accredited CBT therapist with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) since 1996. I was involved in training counsellors and CBT therapists at the University of Wales Newport from 1988 to 2003. I obtained PhD at the University of Bristol in 2008 and am a widely published author on CBT, including and most recently Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: Foundations for Practice (Sage Publications, 2012).
Although I work primarily as a CBT therapist, I am also familiar with other therapeutic methods and tend to adapt methods to the needs of the individual client. Since leaving the University of Wales in 2003, I have worked as a freelance therapist, supervisor and trainer.
