About Me

I am a researcher and research manager at the Environment for Development Unit, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. I am also a Senior Lecturer in economics at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden. I am an EIB-GDN (European Investment Bank-Global Development Network) fellow in Applied Development Finance and also a research fellow at UNICEF Office of Research–Innocenti, within the Transfer Project. In the past, I have worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the department of economics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and a research assistant at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), the University of Ghana. I have taught economics courses at the department of economics at SLU, the University of Ghana, Ashesi University, and the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education (University of Ghana, Legon). I hold a Ph.D. degree in economics from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, a master of philosophy degree in economics, and a bachelor’s degree in economics with mathematics (first-class honors), all from the University of Ghana.

My primary research interest is in the areas of environmental and natural resource economics (i.e. energy, climate change, and natural resource (water, forestry, and mining)), development economics (i.e. migration, health, women empowerment, and welfare analysis), and agricultural and food economics (food demand analysis, food security, nutrition, and technology adoption). I also have a secondary research interest that focuses on the performance of banking institutions and impact evaluation. My research is empirical in nature with applied econometric methods and mathematical programming. I have published my research works in a number of reputable journals such as Energy Economics, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Applied Energy, Renewable Energy, Energy, Food Policy, Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, Ambio, Journal of Development Effectiveness, etc.

In relation to capacity building, I oversee the administration of the Sida bilateral capacity building program between the University of Rwanda-, Addis Ababa University- and the University of Gothenburg, at EfD. These programs involve the training of Ph.D. students from the two African Universities. As a manager of the program, I am responsible for the day-to-day running of the program, course design in collaboration with lecturers, and helping students in finding supervisors. I play a similar role on the University of Rwanda-SLU Sida bilateral capacity building program since I am the co-PI for the subprogram entitled “Engendering Rural Transformation for Sustainable Development (ENTRUST)”. I have supervised undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students. I have undertaken several projects funded by international organizations such as Sida, Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development, IDRC, UNU-WIDER, EIB, UNICEF, The World Bank, MasterCard, Save the Children foundation, among others.
