Portraiture Painting Online (Spring 2026)

A new online course in portraiture for beginners to intermediate levels

Course dates: 13/01/26 to 24/03/26 (half term 17/02/26)

Delivery: Online, Zoom and written feedback by email

Course length: 10 weeks, every Tuesday 2:30 - 4:30pm

Price: £150 (fully refundable if cancelled before the course start date).

Course Description

This course introduces students to the art of portraiture in a relaxed and supportive environment. You will learn how to draw the face, neck and features accurately and then move on to painting portraits in acrylics. The class is ideal for beginners but also acts as a gateway to higher learning. I introduce and demonstrate the basic techniques used in portraiture. Working from enlarged photographs, students first learn to accurately draw the head, neck and face with correct proportions and foreshortening. The course then moves on to colour mixing and acrylic painting techniques before examining the use of light and shade to create a likeness and make expressive and individual portraits. Following logical steps and illustrated with clear handouts, it finishes with a personal painting project.
