Francesco is an Associate Professor of Economics at IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, where he is a member of the research unit AXES (Analysis of Complex Economic Systems) and serves as Director of the Research and Training Centre on Donation.

He is one of the organizers (alongside Lorenzo Casini, Gustavo Cevolani, and Alessio Moneta) of the workshops of the Network for Statistical and Causal Inference (NESCI) and (alongside Omar Rachedi) of the Lucca Macro Workshop.

He is also the Coordinator of the co-supervision double–degree agreement between the PhD program at EADS and the PhD program at the University of Alicante and the Principal Investigator of the EcoNet Latam (Economics Network between Latin America and Italy) project, which promotes internationalisation of some Italian doctoral programmes in economics, agriculture, and sustainability (of IMT Lucca, University of Florence, University of Siena, and University of Basilicata) by creating and strengthening their links with a network of institutions in South America.

Francesco was an Assistant Professor at the University of Alicante (FAE) and held teaching and research appointments at the University of Turin, University of Florence, Université Paris-Dauphine PSL, University of Valencia, and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies Pisa (LEM).
His research interests include labor economics, health economics, international trade, production networks, microeconometrics, policy evaluation methods, and causal machine learning.
