Resit
There will be a resit examination for the Phonetics and Phonology, Lexicon and Morphology parts of the course on 23rd January in T116, 12.00-15.00.
This course will provide an introduction to linguistic theory which will be used in other courses in the programme. The first lecture will be devoted to an overview and a discussion of the role of linguistic theory in language technology. In the remainder of the course we will present the main areas of linguistic theory: phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and the lexicon.
The course will be taught by (in order of appearance) Robin Cooper, Jonas Lindh, Karin Friberg Heppin and Simon Dobnik. Robin Cooper will coordinate the course.

Each section of the course will be examined separately. The final examination on 27th Oct will be on Phonetics and Phonology, Morphology and the Lexicon. Syntax and Semantics will be examined by the exercises. The course will be graded with the following grades: VG (excellent), G (satisfactory), UG (fail). In order to obtain VG you will need to obtain VG on at least three of the five sections in addition to satisfying the requirements for G. In order to obtain G you will need to obtain at least G on four of the five sections.
