The Ford Soccer Club was formed in 1992 by Fritz Nelson as a way for Ford Motor Company employees to get together and play soccer. Today there are seven competitive outdoor summer teams (five mens, two women) that play teams from all over Southeastern Michigan. Many who want to learn the game and get exercise attend our weekly outdoor practices.
But as fun as our summer leagues are, we get great attendance during the winter with our many indoor teams and leagues. As the membership in the Ford Soccer Club has grown, so have the number of indoor soccer arenas around Detroit. During the winter there are over 150 Ford Soccer Club members playing this beautiful game at least once per week.
FSC is a member of the Ford Employee Recreation Association (FERA). It has come a long way from the original pick-up games played at the field near the old Edison High School (now just a parking lot for PDC test vehicles) and Henry Ford Community College.
Diversity is a big part of Ford Soccer Club. Our success is in no small part due to Ford being a global company. When foreign employees take an assignment in the US, many are happy to find there is football being played here where the ball is round and you don't need shoulder pads. We have players from throughout the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia. And, while our membership is predominantly male, some of our most active and enthusiastic members are female.
Our members also like to support charitable causes. With club camaraderie, we've joined together in labor and finances to help better our world and and assist others in need, such as cleaning up a stretch of highway, helping maintain the beauty of local parks, to supporting causes such as the Special Olympics, among others.
We hope you enjoy this website, and if you are interested in joining the Ford Soccer Club, visit the New Player section and fill out a form for any league or activity for which you would like to participate.
