Virtual Outdoor Education ProgramS

Would you love to visit Foley Mountain Conservation Area with your class but an in-person visit just isn't possible? Why not bring nature to your students at home or in the classroom! Your students will have an opportunity to explore some of the incredible habitats, plants, and animals found at Foley Mountain.

Our outdoor education staff will guide you and your students through an adventure that focuses on bringing the outdoors to you. Our virtual programs are live, adapted for each grade level listed, curriculum connected, and include opportunities to interact directly with our outdoor educators!

Foley Mountain’s virtual programs include the following:

  • Introductory activities to engage students prior to the live presentation.

  • A live virtual presentation with one of Foley Mountain’s outdoor education staff.

  • Opportunity to interact with the outdoor educator and ask questions.

  • Follow up activities for your students to expand the learning experience.


Program Choices For Winter 2022

1) Winter Wonderland (grade K - 7): Students will learn about how living things survive our harsh Canadian winters. Depending on the grade level, we’ll explore in the forest and looks for signs of winter wildlife, check out neat treasures, and maybe even do an experiment!


Program Choices For Spring 2022

1) Amazing Animals (grade K - 6): Students will learn about some of the amazing animals that call Foley Mountain home and how they survive. Check out neat nature treasures, play a game, and go exploring in the forest!

2) Beaver Pond Bonanza (grade K – 6): Through a virtual exploration of one of Foley Mountain’s many beaver ponds, students will get up close and personal with some of the animals that call the pond home. Hear stories of how these curious critters have adapted to life under water and how they fit into the food chain!

3) Pond Ecology (grade 6 – 12): Students will investigate the diversity of living things found in a pond ecosystem and how they all have a role to play. Outdoor education staff will guide students through the sampling process, use of identification keys, and tallying species to learn how these observations can be related to water quality and ecosystem health.

4) A Bug’s Life (grade K - 3): Put on your detective’s hat and join us on a virtual investigation of some incredible insects. Learn about what makes insects who they are and how they have adapted to their environment. An outdoor educator will guide you through an exploration of the forest habitat to see what critters we can find!

5) Don’t Treat Soil Like Dirt (grade 3): Have you every stopped and looked at the soil beneath your feet? Join us for a virtual exploration of the living breathing soil found in the forests of Foley Mountain and some of the curious creatures that help maintain this important ecosystem ingredient.

Program Lengths & Costs

Programs will be approximately 45 minutes in length (this is flexible depending on scheduling options and age of students). The cost for the program is $75 for a group of up to 30 students.

Our programs are offered using Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, or Zoom.
